Procedures for Entering a Swim Meet

Procedures for entering Masters Swim Meets via Aurora Master Ducks:

1) Read Meet Package - though you might read the whole document, at least you can scan it so that you know the major and some minor details of the meet (format, maximum # of events to enter, meet start times etc).

2) Decide on the events you would like to swim - if you are unsure of what events to pick, check with your coach. He/she will be happy to help you (maybe you don’t want to check with Nancy as she might find you fit to do a 200 fly). RELAYS: Your Coach(es) will place you on appropriate relays, so you don't need to even worry about that. Once they are final, you will be notified which ones you are swimming on.

3) Submit entry time:
a. If you are a returning swimmer, you can either indicate the times you’d like to use, or let Janet Mitchell (swim meet entry manager) choose for you – your previous best times will be used.
b. If you are a new swimmer, and you have no idea what your times are, you have three options:
i. enter NO TIME (NT). You cannot do this for Nationals or Provincials, but for many local meets, entering NT slots you into the slowest heat – this is ok to do, as long as you truly are not speedy. If so, it’s best to enter a guesstimate time
ii. ask your coach (he/she can estimate, or conduct a mini time trial
iii. you can indicate a couple of lane mates who swim the same approximate speed, and Janet will make up times for you (don’t worry, she’ll be kind!)

4) Complete the form - (don’t worry about filling in your MSO # - Janet will do that for you)

5) Attach payment - cash or cheque – made out to the host club – see Meet Package. Please DO NOT make the cheque out to the Master Ducks)

6) Hand in your entry form and payment:
a. to Janet directly
b. in her file in the filing cabinet at the ARC
c. drop off at the Duck box in the front hall of the ARC.

These are the preferred ways to submit your entry. You could, on occasion, hand it in to a coach to pass along. Janet will also take e-mail entries when necessary, but as she isn’t a huge fan of filling out your paperwork for you, please use discretion (though she would prefer to do your paperwork than have you miss the meet!). We’ve (read: Nancy) sometime’s been casual about collecting payment, but there’s a new Sherriff in town and she’s going to clean up this mess: Payment MUST be made by the entry deadline.
If you have any questions, please contact Janet at janet.mitchell@sympatico.ca
